Feeding Ideas

I bought  a Redmond salt rock today.  I have seen it advertised on RFD-TV, especially when watching Julie Goodnight.  I have decreased Brego’s grain amount.    He has quite the belly on him.  I increase the hay during the cold months that are quickly coming upon us!  He does not need the added calories in the grain.  I want him to have the supplements that are in the Redmond rock.  The added benefit would be that he would increase his water intake also!  It is worth the price of buying it once to try it.

Okay.  It is now November 21st.   Tomorrow is Thanksgiving day.  Happy Thanksgiving Day to all!  I have not been on this blog much because I have questions on how to add to my categories!  I don’t know how to do it!  I haven’t been able to get hold of my son-in-law.  He is the one who created this blog for me!  I think they are having trouble with their phone service.

I have also felt so sad for all those affected by hurricane Sandy.  I can’t imagine what they have gone through.  I hope they are able to recover quickly.

Back to health:   I haven’t noticed the Redmond salt block getting smaller.  I don’t know if it is just my horses ….they would rather eat than lick?  Or maybe the grain is complete enough where they don’t feel the need for supplements!   They are getting Purina Strategy and Senior feed.  The old pony gets beet pulp 2x/day.  Now I have my sister’s horse.  She is 26 years old approx.  and she gets beet pulp and grain.  I have been busy with all 4 equines!  I read somewhere, sometime ago, that giving a bran mash once per week was good for horses.  It keeps the colon cleaned out when they are on a hay diet (no grass).  I remember that I read not to give it too often because it can upset the potassium level.  I am going to have to look this up.  But anyway, they all had it for the first time tonight!  I really enjoyed  making it! ( My husband was in the kitchen while I was mixing it up and he said he should eat so good! )  I add light brown sugar instead of molasses.   It is cheaper and should taste good.  No one complained tonight!  I swear I see Brego smile while eating it!  I added carrots and apples.  As I carried the mixing bucket back to the house, I remembered that I forgot to add salt.  I’ll have to remember next week!
