Brego
I rode Brego after work today. I wish I had gotten to the barn earlier..but couldn’t. I knew the ride would be short (and it was), but I just had to see if he would ‘head out’ without being too ‘buddy-sour’.
Just the other day someone told me that a trainer she knew said that no horse really likes to go out alone. They are herd animals, and it goes against their nature. That is a valid point. I never had that problem until this spring, when Brego was so resistant that time I rode. Up until then, I never had an issue. Granted, I haven’t ridden much these past couple of years. He is 19 years old now, and maybe, like myself, doesn’t quite feel the same-a little more aches and pain.
Brego walked on down the road with no problem. Ginger was neighing, but he never answered. He was a little more tense than usual, at a couple of areas . When some horses neighed to him (they were just down the road from my house and looked new to me), he began to snort and do his ‘passage’. We got past that point, and then I headed home. The speed picked up, but then he settled into his shuffling, walking gait. Overall, I was happy with how he behaved.
When we got back, he didn’t rush to be with Ginger. After the tack came off, and was brushed a little, he just walked out to the field to graze…Ginger following after him.
Can’t wait to ride again! This time it will be Ginger’s turn!
