Ah, more time…
It is now September. I wish I had summer to do over. I have lists in my mind that haven’t been crossed off; so much yet to do! Sadly, I have to say to myself, “next spring”. On a brighter note, my 2 horses have had a good summer! I have taken care of them the best I could. They have fly masks, fly spray when needed, shade, and food. The heat has been oppressive at times. I sponged, or hosed them when hot. That in itself has made me happy; knowing that I have given the best care that I could. I tend to get very OCD about certain things, and the horses are one of them. I would like to do things in a certain way on a certain schedule- and get very frustrated when it doesn’t happen. I believe that I am getting over that. It’s called...

I got the stock trailer, albeit impulsively, back in May. On August 4th, finally registered it.On August 7th, I was going to meet up with someone about 15 miles away to go riding with. Went to church that morning, and hurried home to get everything ready. Had my own water in a bucket to take, saddle, brushes, etc.. I was SO excited. I had planned on taking Ginger for the first trailer ride. The trailer was sitting in my pasture, since it was easier to teach the horses to load being easily accessible. They also got familiar with it; the sound of opening the door; the banging and clanging. My pasture is down a little slope from my house. My husband and I (finally) got the bumper hooked to the truck. That in itself is a test of any relationship! This...

“No hoof, no horse. ” Yep, I have heard that for years. I never had a problem with my childhood horse, Amoreena. I called the farrier, he came. Her hooves always looked good. When I got Brego, Arwen, Sassy, I didn’t know any farriers in the area. I looked in our local paper and found one. Brego was new to me then, and I admit I was still nervous and didn’t have a clue how to interact with him. I haven’t had a horse in years and years! Amoreena was 11 months old when my sister and dad bought her for me. I trained her by reading books and spent a lot of time with her! I had no extracurricular activities after school! I came home and spent time with her. Brego was different. Older, green broke, and not so easy-going. When the farrier...

I rode Brego after work today. I wish I had gotten to the barn earlier..but couldn’t. I knew the ride would be short (and it was), but I just had to see if he would ‘head out’ without being too ‘buddy-sour’. Just the other day someone told me that a trainer she knew said that no horse really likes to go out alone. They are herd animals, and it goes against their nature. That is a valid point. I never had that problem until this spring, when Brego was so resistant that time I rode. Up until then, I never had an issue. Granted, I haven’t ridden much these past couple of years. He is 19 years old now, and maybe, like myself, doesn’t quite feel the same-a little more aches and pain. Brego walked on down the road with no...
